The Imonjani

Bottom Border

The Resilient People of the Waves

The Imonjani are human survivors who came from the sea. After their once-great eastern empire was stolen below the waves, the remnants of their people arrived on the shores of Padun. Though they can be calm and serene, they are a force to be reckoned with when angered; they are the wave that crashes upon the shore.

Through trade, travel, and tribulation, the Imonjani adapted to their new world and built the coastal port city of New Hope. They practice a thousands-of-years-old martial art known as the “Buli Path,” which is split into two distinct schools of thought:

  • Flow: Practitioners seek to be formless and shapeless, moving seamlessly with their opponents and adapting to any situation.
  • Crash: Practitioners embody the unruly ocean, striking first and hitting with extreme, unified force.

Masters of the Buli Path

The Imonjani utilize Water Magu and their aquatic heritage to control the battlefield. Their army consists of specialized troops trained to slip through defenses and weather heavy attacks.

  • Mariners (Warriors): Using heavy iron turtle-shell shields and spears, these frontline fighters utilize a martial skill called “Dampe” to deliver fast, powerful blows.
  • Droppers (Rogues): Originally deep-ocean divers, these nimble scouts use water ingot-enhanced shoes to speed across the battlefield, utilizing jellyfish toxins to disable enemies.
  • Crashers (Mages): Armed with staffs forged by Watersmiths, these mages use refined ingots to focus the destructive power of waterfalls and riptides to push and disrupt enemy forces.
  • High Waves (Priests): Acting as the spiritual keepers of Imonjani history, these healers bolster the resilience of their squads to stand strong against any assault.

Quianna, The New Wave

Quianna, The New Wave

The eldest of ten children, Quianna Bara Omi grew up in Red Tower City listening to tales of the old Imonjani empire and the warrior heroes of the past. Driven, competitive, and fiercely protective of her people, she joined the Red Tower Guard before quickly ascending to the elite Wavekeepers division. Demonstrating a frightfully elegant and destructively commanding mastery of the “Crash and Flow” martial path, Quianna became the youngest captain in Wavekeeper history at just 20 years old.

Quianna is a purist who refuses to use any element other than Water Magu, honoring the aquatic legacy of the Imonjani. Her defining moment came during the Battle of White Field against the Kilishe. When zealots attempted to detonate a fiery altar to burn the settlement, Quianna used her Magu-enhanced strider boots to cross the battlefield at blinding speed. Stabbing her glowing spear into the earth, she unleashed massive geysers of water to extinguish the flames, saving her people and earning the rank of Magusha Commander.

Okrin Mwindo, The Calm Waters

Okrin Mwindo, The Calm Waters

Background & Lore

Growing up in the early days of New Imal, Okrin Mwindo worked the docks before enlisting in the Mariner Training Camp at age 16. In his youth, he was known for having a “rage like a tidal wave,” always the first into a fight and the last to leave. He and his close friend Zeke were taken under the wing of an elder commander named Jasuun. During the Battle of the Flooded Trees, their convoy was ambushed by Woodwyns, resulting in Jasuun’s tragic death. In his grief, Okrin seized his master’s blue-orbed cane and unleashed a torrent of water with the rage of a flooded river, completely destroying the attackers.

Following this, Okrin vowed to protect his people by creating an elite force known as “The Wavekeepers,” leading them for 40 years. However, after a fateful raid that resulted in the death of his own son—who was secretly leading a resistance—Okrin abandoned his command. He has since embarked on a journey of penance and redemption, dedicating his remaining years to healing and helping others find a better life
